Congratulations Revd Stephenr

The Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford, has been nominated by Her Majesty the Queen as the new Archbishop of York in succession to the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr John Sentamu. Bishop Stephen’s response was that he was humbled and excited at the appointment which would make him the 98th Archbishop of York. But he said that he was not daunted by the appointment and that he hoped to build on the work he had forge and, by working alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury he hopes to help make the church a more joyful and uplifted place by sharing the gospel and bringing hope to the nation. The Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Reverend Justin Welby, said that he was delighted that Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell and been nominated for this appointment. Rt Revd Cottrell was born and grew up in Essex but lived and served in Huddersfield for nine years, he said he loves the north of England and now looks forward to being a voice for the North, by sharing the good news of the gospel.
