Windows into Advent: On a crisp, wintery day members gathered in the Chapter House Chelmsford for the Prayer and Spirituality Unit's Quiet Day to reflect on the season of Advent. Members had been asked to bring an item, perhaps a poem, Bible reading, seasonal calendar or simply a memory to talk about and share with others.
Our group was small in number but huge in creativity and inspiration as the sharing of the items began. All present contributed and it reminded us all of the season we are entering.
Revd Canon Edward Carter gave an inspirational talk and presented a video which enabled us all to gain a further background to the season.
Elisabeth Sedano led midday prayers before Valerie Thompson led a meditation on a poem by Elizabeth Jennings called The Visitation which described the visit of Mary to Elizabeth.
After lunch our creative task began, Elisabeth Sedano had prepared four white boards which we were to fill as if they were stained glass windows with pictures, words and drawings. The windows were titled Penitence, Discipleship and Vocation, God's Presence and Going out in Hope. We worked on the windows in two separate groups although much sharing of ideas and resources occurred all in the cheerful atmosphere of companionship and friendship.
We then shared our thoughts on the windows with each other before our final Eucharist led by Revd Canon Edward with Vivien Chapman reading the lesson.
The meeting ended with tea and mince pies remembering of course to pose for a special Wave photo take so that Lucy Bubb can share this with our overseas links.
Please look out for our next Prayer and Spirituality Day and come along if you can.
