Reflections from December 18

As the winter days and nights set-in, let us remember and pray for all those who are alone and cannot afford heating, those who are elderly, those who have no home and must sleep on the cold paving stones.
Let us remember before God all those selfless Mothers’ Union members now passed away. Those like Mollie Merchant who gave of their time and skills to help others and to glorify your church buildings… May they rest in peace and rise in glory…
God gave us a body, mind and spirit, and we should be very mindful of its wellbeing no matter what state it is in. In the article on Body, Mind and Soul dated 11th Dec 18 you will find a few hints and tips on looking after our precious attributes, which in turn should be helpful to others.
The Power of Prayer is very uplifting, so let us all follow in Mary Sumner’s footsteps and if we cannot physically help someone who is in trouble, we can support them with our prayers. Let us pray for all those people who need our help today.
The abbess Hildegard of Bingen (St. Hildegard) wrote books on the natural world and on the causes and cures of illness. Many other women worldwide were also practicing medicine and herbalism in their homes and communities at this time.
