A message from our Diocesan President Maxine Paul: After the busyness of preparing for the Commissioning service hotly followed by my first Trustees meeting, February was a time for fact-finding and what a lot of facts there are to find out about who does what, where, when, why and how in CDMU! I was also privileged to represent CDMU at the Consecration service and welcome service for Bishop Lynne, the new Bishop of Barking.

This year Bishop Guli is encouraging everyone in the Diocese to “use the period of Lent to pause, mark some of the changes we have experienced during this period of great change [pandemic] and then set our faces to the future, leaning into what God is calling us towards.” – an ideal opportunity for me to use my Lenten reflections to consolidate all the facts that I have gleaned so far. To find out more about the Holy Sabbatical in Lent visit https://www.chelmsford.anglican.org/holy-sabbatical #LentHolySabbatical. Alternatively, your church will be having its own Lent reflection courses for you to join in with.

Throughout Lent we will also be posting material from The Clewer Initiative on Facebook and on the website. The Clewer Initiative is a project that enables the Church of England and its wider networks to develop strategies to detect modern day slavery in their communities. The Mothers’ Union is working in partnership with the Clewer Initiative to support the tackling of Modern Day Slavery. To read more about our partnership with the Clewer Initiative visit Our story | Mothers' Union (mothersunion.org). It is estimated that 1 in 4 victims of modern slavery are children and this year the Clewer Initiative’s Lent Resource is Children in the Shadows – a five-week interactive course looking at Children and modern slavery. The course has been designed as a Lent devotional and each week focuses on a different way in which modern slavery impacts children.
