Not all children are so blessed.
Christingle at St Mary’s: Although we do not have a MU group, we do have some avid MU members, so I feel pleased to tell you that: On a cold but beautifully sunny morning it was a joy to see so many people in church to celebrate Christingle. As we remembered how the Wise Men came forth from the East bringing gifts for the Holy Child, so it was with great happiness that so many came forward with gift-envelopes and boxes to give to the Christian Children’s Society all of which were blessed by Revd Carolyn before they are handed on. We had some delightful readings and prayers from some of our young people and we even had a sweet, little ‘orange’ with a big red bow grace our isles, whilst Revd Carolyn explained how the Christingle orange is made up. The orange is the world, the red ribbon is the blood that Jesus shed for our sins. The four sticks represent the seasons and the sweets represents all the good things given to us by God, the candle, of course, represents Jesus being the light of the world. Once the oranges had been collected the candles were lit and the church became full of love, light and fun. So, whether any of us here in St Mary’s this morning is wise or not, unfortunately, we cannot give gifts to the infant Christ, but wait! Perhaps we can… for Jesus said, whatever we do for one of his children we do for Him. Amen
