Bright as a button in July!

Thoughts from your President, Maxine Paul: We have had some very happy news this month – many congratulations to Eileen French who was awarded an MBE in the King’s first birthday honours list for her work with ECYVS. It was a privilege to send one of Hilary’s lovely cards to Eileen on behalf of all the members of CDMU and tell her how proud we are of her.

We also had some sad news. Many of you will remember the long service that Ivy Southgate and Pat Playle gave to CDMU with love and thanks. Both have passed on, along with Lorraine Arnold, a long-standing member in Ilford who died just one month short of her 100th birthday. May they rest in peace and rise in glory. Again, it was a privilege to represent CDMU at two of the funerals. It has made me even more aware that during this time of reimagining for the future, we mustn’t lose sight of and build on all the good things of the past and what we are still achieving and give thanks to God for MU past, present and future with hope in our hearts.

I’ve just got back from the CDMU Retreat at Pleshey led by Rev’d Michael Hatchett and organised by Past President Marion Ketley. It was lovely to meet with some more members. The more people I meet, the more I realise what a wonderful, diverse membership we have – each of us with something different to offer. Thank you to all involved, it was a pleasure to have spent a few days with you. We looked at trees and the way they nurture their own future generations and ours – a subtle look at ecosystems and transformation. With love and blessings. Maxine x
